It is fair to say that the majority of visitors to Sidi Kaouki are there for one thing – the surf! The beach and small town of Sidi Kaouki sits 17 miles south of Essaouira, which is a popular area for holidays and kitesurfing and windsurfing in its own right.
It is easily accessible which is why so many people make their way to this secluded spot armed with their wetsuits, boards and sun cream. However, there is more to the area than just the vast open waters that crash into the soft sand beach.
Cafes, Souks and Accommodation
A vibrant community of cafes and souks provide ample refreshment and a true taste of a Moroccan village. In fact, a little further on from Sidi Kaouki is where you will find Diabat and the Jimi Hendrix Cafe. Hendrix was indeed in this area in 1969 and you can sense the pride that the locals take in this fact. You will also find some excellent accommodation, and plenty of it, in the area. It is even possible to enjoy a spot of luxury at some of the places to stay.

Yet, whilst we effuse about the merits of Sidi Kaouki away from the beach and sea, this is, after all, why so many people discover this charming pocket of northern Morocco.
The area is famed for its glorious sunshine and strong winds. This is a perfect combination for windsurfing, kitesurfing or just surfing.
The waves are often rather large, presenting an inviting challenge to many established surfers but also, giving newcomers a great opportunity to experience the adrenaline of the sport.
